PSU Shipping Questions
How will my pool be shipped?
All PSU deliveries will be "standard curbside delivery" via common carrier. This means that they will bring it to your curb / driveway and that is all. You will be responsible for unloading the equipment from the truck. While a couple of people can unload each piece one at a time, it is much quicker to have a bobcat / skid-ster with forks to unload it.
If you are ordering accessories or "small" orders are usually shipped via FedEx or UPS.

What do I do if I have a damaged piece?
Remove everything, inspect it, and verify the number of shipping units received to the numbers listed on the delivery receipt. If you didn't receive something or if something is DAMAGED, make sure that you or the driver note it on the delivery receipt BEFORE you sign it. Call us directly and we will ship out the missing or damaged items right away. BACK TO TOP
How long will it take for my pool to arrive?
You will receive your order roughly 6-7 business days after we receive a cleared payment. Checks, money orders & wire transfers need to clear our bank before an order is shipped. BACK TO TOP
How much will shipping cost me?
In most cases all pool kit orders are FREE of shipping to your curb. Their might be an additional charge if you can't unload the truck yourself. Some smaller or accessory orders might have a small shipping fee, but usually not. BACK TO TOP

Can I get a replacement liner for my pool that I didn't purchase from you?
YES, just email or fax us the dimensions that you need and we can make the liner for you. An exact price will be given when we receive the liner specs. BACK TO TOP
How do your pools compare to my local builders pools?
These pool kits are the same or better pool kits that you are getting quotes for right now from your local builders. We sell to many builders throughout the US.
If you want to save money and still not do any of the work, find out how much they charge for labor only. You will get the kit less expensive and only have to be for labor! BACK TO TOP
How do I know what size my pump and filter should be?
Our pumps range from 1hp to 2hp, but the determining factor is how far the pump is from the pool and how much water you have. You pool should be filtering all the water within 6 - 8 hours. Over-sizing your pump will cause the water to push past you filter to fast and prevent it from being property filtered.
1hp pumps = most residential pools.
1.5hp - 2hp pumps = 40' long or long plumbing runs

Is sand as good as Pool Krete (vermiculite)?
Vermiculite or Poo Krete (Strong) is the proper way to construct a new pool. Pool Krete allows a layer of protection between the liner and the ground. Vermiculite will hold back "normal" ground water and not move over time. When it is time to replace the liner you will not have to add or smooth out any lumps that the sand created.
Walking on vermiculite is like walking on a stiff cork board, which is better than rock hard compacted sand. There are ways to save money on building a pool, but using a sand bottom isn't the way.
Anyone that recommends building a pool with sand isn't a pool builder and you should question other things that they have told you.

Construction and Design
I want a different deep end or dig style, how much extra does it cost?
There is no additional cost for an unique dig, there is no additional charge for the liner either. BACK TO TOP
Do you build pools or know how to overcome problems if I run across something?
Building pools is all we do. Our retail company Penguin Pools does nothing other than build pools. We have and can over come any problem that might present itself during your pool build. FYI, ground water is usually the biggest problem.
Our vast experience also allows us to offer "on-site consulting" if you decide that you don't have the time or resources to finish the project. BACK TO TOP
Can you recommend builders in my area?
In certain areas of the US, we do have builders that we can recommend. They are builders that purchase pools from us, and know our pool kits. We don't take any responsibility in their licensing, knowledge, or workmanship. Contact us for more information. BACK TO TOP
Do you have offices Nationwide?
Our offices are only regional in the Midwest, HOWEVER we do ship out of different warehouses throughout the US. South, East, West, Midwest . . . we can handle what you need in a timely manner through our 5 distribution points. BACK TO TOP
Polymer or Steel, what do you prefer?
We prefer the polymer pool walls over the steel kits as they have a stronger strength ratio than steel. For installation they are lighter and will not rust, corrode, or break down. Our polymer kits also allow you to create a free form design unlike most steel kits. BACK TO TOP
I have a problem and need help NOW, what do I do?
Contact us right away 7 days a week. If you have a digital camera, take a picture and email it to us to help us resolve your problem for you. BACK TO TOP
What should I backfill my pool with?
While our pool kits are designed with deck supports and the ability to backfill with earth (the material you excavated out), we recommend chipped / washed rock. If you backfill with earth, we recommend watering it daily to aid in the settling process and waiting at least 4 weeks before you decide to pour concrete. If you use a 1" chipped or washed rock for backfill you can pour concrete on it right away.
Many concrete contractors WILL NOT even pour concrete on dirt, they will only do it non-compactable material. On our pools, we usually go through 3-4 full trucks of rock costing roughly $250 each for our backfill. If don't want your concrete to settle and crack after a few years, we recommend backfilling with rock. Traffic Bond (TB) will also settle, make sure to use a washed or chipped rock. You never see houses backfilled with earth (dirt), they use rock to wash the water away and prevent settling around the foundation. If it is good enough for house construction, it must be good enough for your pool installation. BACK TO TOP
Can these pools really be installed as a "Do-It-Yourself"?
While these pools are meant to be done by any average Joe, they aren't a one day process. Make sure you have read the instruction manual and that you have the tools and manpower to complete the project. If you don't think you can do it, then get prices for pool labor from local builders. You can still save thousands of dollars by purchasing the pool from us and contracting out the rest.
I can't build a house, but can coordinate other people to do it form me cheaper than if I had a builder do everything for me. BACK TO TOP
